If you decide to go on a Paul Gauguin cruise or stay in an overwater bungalow, you might be wondering what there is to do while visiting Bora Bora. We actually did the following activities over 2 days but you could do them in a day. While there are many other things to do in Bora Bora, we think these should be at the top of your list.
Helicopter tour
This is the perfect time to take a helicopter tour. There are two options: a 20 minute flight around Bora Bora or a 30 minute flight around Bora Bora and Tupai. Tupai is a heart-shaped island about 5 minutes from Bora Bora. We decided to go the 30 minute flight and it was worth it. The views of the islands from above are spectacular. Also, we were lucky as we saw a pod of dolphins in the lagoon as we took off.
Snorkeling
We think Bora Bora is one of the top destinations to snorkel as the marine life is so diverse. We did an excursion that stopped at three sites. The first site was on the ocean side outside the protected lagoon to see blacktip reef sharks and nurse sharks. We were in no danger as the nurse sharks were deep and did not even notice we were there. The blacktip reef sharks where more interested in their usual food (reef fish).
The second stop was to visit stringrays in shallow water. The third stop was to snorkel in the coral garden. It was amazing as there were so many different types of fish and coral. I could have spent hours swimming with the colorful fish.
