The state of Utah features its own unique food. From savory to sweet, Utah food offers it all. Check out our recommendations for Utah food to try during your visit.

1. Funeral Potatoes

Funeral Potatoes are a cheesy potato dish commonly served at funeral luncheons (hence the name). They are also served on holidays and other potluck events. This deliciously comforting dish consists of cubed or shredded potatoes, cheese, sour cream or cream soup, onions, and crunchy buttery corn flakes on top. You will find versions of funeral potatoes in restaurants shaped as balls.

2. Fry Sauce

Fry Sauce is a pink sauce created by the founder of the Arctic Circle restaurants in the 1950s as an alternative dipping sauce for fries. Every Utah restaurant has a slightly different version but it is basically a mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise plus something tangy (such as pickle juice, a dash of relish, or sometimes a little BBQ sauce). It reminds me of Thousand Island dressing.

3. Pastrami Burger

A classic Utah dish is the pastrami burger. It is a charboiled cheeseburger topped with thinly-sliced pastrami. It first appeared as the signature offering at Crown Burgers restaurants in the 1980s. Then other restaurants started serving it and it became a menu staple.

4. Utah Scone

A Utah Scone is not like any other scones, so don’t be confused into thinking that you are getting an English scone. A Utah Scone is a deep-fried, puffy bread served with powdered sugar and honey butter. It reminds me of funnel cake.
