Sunset Key Cottages is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for a tranquil and relaxing vacation without traveling outside of the USA. Or, perhaps you are planning to visit Dry Tortugas National Park (which we highly recommend). Read on for our Sunset Key Cottages review to know why you should stay here during your visit to Florida!
1. Private location
Sunset Keys Cottage is located on a 27-acre island about 0.2 miles off Key West. The only way to get to Sunset Keys is by a private 7-minute ferry service which operates every 30 minutes. Sunset Keys is the perfect location to enjoy the vibrance of Key West and iconic sites like Hemmingway House, Truman’s White House, and the southernmost point, but then retreat to a private sanctuary.
2. Accommodations
Sunset Key Cottages offers two, three, and four-bedroom pastel-colored cottages. The cottages feature views of either the turquoise blue water or the island’s gardens which are filled with jasmine-scented courtyards, bright-colored hibiscus, and frangipanis. We stayed in a 3-bedroom two-story duplex cottage. The interior decor is a casual beach style. The upper level contains a bedroom with a king bed, a well-equipped kitchen, a living area, and a furnished balcony. The lower level has two bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with two queen beds. All of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The cottage is comfortable but starting to show some wear. Also, the bathrooms were a little small with no vanity space and a shallow bathtub. However, the location of the cottage was perfect, as we were steps from the pool and beach. Everything on the resort is conveniently located, with the furthest amenity about a 2-minute walk.
3. Gourmet dining
Sunset Key Cottages offers two dining venues: Flipper’s Pool Bar and Latitudes.
Flipper’s Pool Bar serves tropical drinks and light food such as fish tacos, lobster rolls, and fresh salads. Please note it is only open from 11 AM to 6 PM.
Latitudes offers an award-winning fine dining experience. It serves fresh, flavorful island cuisine, including fresh local fish. Make sure you reserve a table outside so you can enjoy the unobstructed views of the Gulf of Mexico. At night, tiki torches illuminate the night sky, magnifying the glorious Key West sunsets.
4. Pool-side treats
The pool features zero-degree entry (perfect for children), two hot tubs, and plenty of sun loungers with umbrellas. However, they really spoil you with complimentary pool-side treats every hour from Noon until 4 PM. The treats service was slightly different due to COVID-19 restrictions but we still enjoyed a frozen drink sample (Key lime flavored, of course), popsicles, and ice cream. You will never miss the ice cream as the ice cream man rides around the property ringing his bike’s bell.
5. Get pampered at the spa
To really unwind and relax, I recommend having a massage at the spa. The spa treatment suites are calming and feature your own full bathroom with shower. This means that you never have to leave your suite, which is ideal during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The spa also offers facial treatments, body scrubs, soothing wraps, and packages like a sports or couple package. Please note that the spa is currently closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
6. Extra hotel amenities
Sunset Key Cottages offers premium amenities, such as a “Rise and Dine” breakfast basket filled with freshly-baked muffins, croissants, and fresh fruit (delivered to your cottage every morning). And don’t forget about the pool-side treats!
