There are many cruise options and it can be overwhelming knowing which one to select. We are here to help! Below are the things to consider when choosing your cruise.
Destinations/Itinerary
If there are specific ports that you want to visit, look to start or end your cruise in the place you want to see the most. Plan to arrive at least a day or two early (or stay a day or two longer) to make sure that you have plenty of time in your embarkation or disembarkation port. Arriving early also lets you recover from jet lag and allows for possible flight delays. Also, consider selecting a cruise line that remains in port for a long period of time. Some itineraries offer long days or even overnight stays in very popular ports.
Timing
Certain destinations have a limited season or simply tend to be more desirable/popular at different times of the year.
- Alaska: June to August is the warmest time to visit and have better wildlife viewing opportunities for animals such as bears, salmon, and whales.
- Caribbean: December to Mid-April are the best and most popular times. You can visit year-round but many people choose to avoid hurricane season.
- Europe: April to June and September to October are the best times to visit as the temperatures are more pleasant and it is not as crowded.
- Hawaii: June, July, and September are the best months to visit Hawaii because the islands get the least amount of rain and the ocean is less rough. However, Hawaii is year-round destination.
- Tahiti/South Pacific: May to October offer more favorable weather with less rain.
Who is going?
The other travelers in your party will influence the cruise line you select. Consider what group you will fall into:

- Families with older kids
- Honeymooners
- Retirees
- Solo Travelers – check if is there an extra charge for single occupancy
- Multi-generational
Type of amenities on-board
Consider if there are particular on-board amenities that are must-haves for you and your family/friends:

- Enrichment lectures
- Entertainment
- Nightclub
- Unique experiences such as ice rinks, FlowRider, rock wall, etc.
