Are you visiting the music capital of the world? We recommend the historic and luxurious Hotel Sacher Wien Vienna just steps from the Vienna State Opera House. Read on for our Hotel Sacher Wien Vienna review to know why you should stay here on your trip to Vienna!
1. Location
The hotel is located directly across from the Vienna State Opera and along Vienna’s main elegant pedestrian zone Kärntner Strasse. It is just minutes away from the Hofburg Imperial Palace with its Spanish Riding School and all other culturally important attractions.
2. History
When you check-in towards the back of the hotel, don’t forget to look at the picture gallery and be in awe of all the history before you. Eduard Sacher opened the hotel in 1876. He is the son of the creator of the Original Sacher Torte. Don’t forget to try a piece of this delicious cake (handmade via 34 individual steps) in the cafe next door.
After Eduard Sacher died in 1892, his wife Anna Sacher took over. She was far ahead of her times: wearing pants and smoking cigars. As you walk around the hotel, you can feel her presence and how much she was loved. Things she liked are dotted around the hotel such as the tablecloths with visitors’ signatures.
The hotel features individually collected antiques and original oil paintings, making it one of Austria’s largest private art collections. The collection even includes some antiques from the Schonnburg Palace.
3. Stunning Views
There is no bad view from the hotel no matter what level you are on. You either have views of the Vienna State Opera House, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, or Albertina Museum.
4. Luxurious Accommodations
All the rooms are elegantly traditional with modern features. The deluxe rooms are decorated in calming colors of rose, mint, or taupe. If you have a color preference be sure to let your travel advisor know. The marble bathrooms have separate showers and bathtubs as well as under-floor heating. If you are traveling with a family and need more space, try a 2 bedroom Grand Signature suite. There are multiple seating areas and some even have a rooftop terrace.
5. Authentic Austrian Restaurants
There are 3 restaurants/bars: Restaurant Grüne (green) Bar, Restaurant Rote (red) Bar, and Blaue (blue) bar. Restaurant Grüne Bar has fine dining in the evening, serving innovative creations. Restaurant Rote Bar serves modern cuisine with Austrian touches and has views of the Vienna State Opera House. Blaue bar is perfect for pre- and post-opera drinks. Breakfast is served in the Marble Hall. Hotel Sacher caters to children with their Petit Sacher menu in each restaurant and even a breakfast carriage.
