The New Zealand government confirmed today that if you are traveling to New Zealand from October 1, 2019 forward that you will need an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) before travelling. This applies if you are from certain visa waiver countries, including the United States. You can start applying for the ETA in July. The ETA will last up to 2 years and will cost 9 NZD for mobile application requests and 12 NZD for web browser requests.

Please note that this also includes travelers who are transiting through New Zealand. This means that even if New Zealand is not your final stop you still need an ETA.

Additionally, New Zealand will be introducing a tourism tax of 35 NZD. Travelers will need to pay this in conjunction with the new ETA.
