Royal Caribbean recently announced its intent to build an all-new cruise terminal in Galveston. The updated dock and new terminal building will provide an excellent experience for cruisers departing and arriving Galveston when it opens for the 2021-2022 winter season. Royal Caribbean will have exclusive use of the new terminal. This most recent commitment expands on Royal Caribbean’s previous investments in Galveston’s terminal 2 renovations.
Texas is already the largest departure point for cruises other than Florida. This latest announcement increases Galveston’s cruise ship docking capacity by 50%. The future of cruising from Texas looks very bright!
Royal Caribbean currently bases two ships in Galveston: Liberty of the Seas and Vision of the Seas. The Liberty of the Seas is a 15- deck ship that can accommodate 3,634 guests. It was built in 2017 and underwent renovations in 2016. In 2021 it will be amplified, this means the ship will have new innovative attractions, pool, bars and dining. The Liberty of the Seas currently has a rock climbing wall, flow-rider (exclusive to Royal Caribbean), ice rink, Splashaway Bay (shown below), Broadway-style shows, and lots of delicious dining options.
The Vision of the Seas is a 12-deck ship that can accommodate about 2,050 guests. It was built in 1998 and underwent renovations in 2013. The highlights on this ship are Broadway-style shows, outdoor movie screen, solarium, and many delectable dining options.
In May 2019 the Enchantment of the Seas will be coming to Galveston and Vision of the Seas will re-position to the Mediterranean. The Enchantment of the Seas was built in 1997 and underwent renovations in 2015. It is the same class of ship as the Vision and offers similar amenities.
