Are you considering a trip to Budapest? We recommend the luxurious Four Seasons Gresham Palace for your stay. The Four Seasons includes everything you expect from a luxury hotel including a great location in the center of Budapest.
What is the Gresham Palace?
Gresham Palace was built in 1906 and was originally a majestic office building and residence for the Gresham company. However, it fell into disrepair until 2004 when it was restored to its former glory and opened as a luxury hotel. During the renovation, it kept the original Art Nouveau architecture and details such as the stain glass windows.
1. Feel like royalty
Although never a true “palace” by the typical definition (no royalty ever lived there), you will feel like royalty when you stay there. The hotel is beautiful and exudes a timeless elegance. The service is welcoming and treats you like a king or queen.
2. Amazing location
The Four Seasons Gresham Palace hotel is located in the heart of Budapest’s historic center, on the banks of the Danube River facing the historic Chain Bridge. It is within a short walking distance of many sites such as St. Stephen’s Basilica, the Hungarian Parliament, and the high-end shops on Andrássy Avenue. You can walk to the Buda Castle district in about 20 minutes.
3. Luxurious accommodations
The rooms and suites reflect Budapest’s imperial grandeur and youthful energy but also feel welcoming and relaxing. The rooms are decorated in the art-deco style. There are three types of room categories: Superior, Gresham, and Danube River View. The rooms differ primarily in size and views.
17 suites of various sizes feature amazing views of Buda through floor to ceiling windows. The suite pictured below is a River View Park Suite, featuring a spacious open-plan and located on the corner.
The first, fourth, and fifth-floor rooms and suites have balconies. If you would like a balcony be sure to let your travel advisor know, so she can request the correct room for you.
4. Be pampered at the spa
Located on the 6th floor in the loft space, the spa features an interesting design with a sloped roof. The spa also has a unique free-standing pool (photo below). There are many treatments available, from massages to facials to scrubs and wraps using local Hungarian products, all highlighting the thermal water heritage of Budapest.
5. Gourmet restaurant and the bar and lobby lounge
The restaurant, Kollazs – Brasserie & Bar, has a European old-world feel to it with cozy booths. The food is contemporary European cuisine. I tried a signature cocktail (Flowers of Yealands) and it was so good I had two.
The lounge is located under a gorgeous glass cupola inside the historic Peacock Passage. You can enjoy light appetizers and drinks here. Additionally, between 3-6 PM there is Herend Afternoon tea.
